A 30-year-old man from Karnataka was rushed to Aster Prime Hospital, Ameerpet, in a life-threatening condition. He suffered from severe abdominal pain, intense pain in both legs for three days, and extreme breathlessness. Immediate investigations revealed a dangerous blood clot that had travelled into a major blood vessel carrying blood back to the heart. Doctors warned that if it had moved any further, it could have been fatal.

Diagnosis of a High-Risk Pulmonary Embolism

Providing details of the case, Dr. Ranganatham Paidi, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon and Head of Neurosurgery at Aster Prime Hospitals, said the patient had a history of chewing gutka. Both thighs were extremely stiff, and he presented with multiple complications. After evaluation, the team diagnosed bilateral pulmonary embolism (PE)—a condition where blood clots block arteries in the lungs. What made the case more alarming was the clot’s dangerous proximity to the heart. Therefore, the hospital immediately activated a multi-disciplinary emergency team.

Advanced Intervention Saves the Patient

Dr. Paidi explained that the team used Penumbra Lightning technology to remove the clot and inserted an IVC filter to prevent further migration. They also performed a pulmonary angiogram. He emphasized that this was a highly complex and high-risk procedure. Vascular surgeon Dr. Ganeshwar Rao led the interventional treatment, with specialists from multiple departments ensuring rapid and precise care. Because the team intervened at the right time, the patient recovered steadily and is now out of danger.

Coordinated Care Prevents a Fatal Outcome

According to Dr. Ganeshwar Rao, the case involved a critical emergency with clots dangerously close to the heart. He highlighted that accurate diagnosis, coordinated specialist efforts, and access to advanced vascular interventional technology helped save the patient from a potentially fatal outcome.

Trust and Expertise Draw Patients From Across Regions

As per the press release, Dr. Paidi added that Aster Prime strongly believes in coordinated, multi-department care for complex emergencies. He noted that early diagnosis and seamless communication between specialties are essential for saving lives. The patient had travelled nearly 230 km from a remote village near Kalaburagi, referred by a lawyer whom Dr. Paidi had treated earlier. He stated that such trust from patients contributes to the hospital’s reputation, drawing people from Karnataka and neighbouring regions for complex medical cases.

Aster Prime’s Commitment to High-Risk Emergency Care

This case underscores Aster Prime Hospital’s commitment to delivering world-class emergency care, even in the most challenging situations. With experienced senior doctors and state-of-the-art technology, the hospital consistently manages high-risk vascular and neurological emergencies with precision and excellence.
