AstraZeneca Pharma India has entered into a second brand collaboration with Sun Pharmaceutical Industries to bring a vital therapy to more patients across India. The tie-up focuses on Sodium Zirconium Cyclosilicate (SZC), a drug used to treat hyperkalaemia.
Brand Arrangement and Rights
Under the agreement, AstraZeneca will market SZC under its global brand name Lokelma, while Sun Pharma will promote and distribute the same therapy under the name Gimliand. Furthermore, AstraZeneca retains full intellectual property rights, along with the marketing authorisation and import licence for the molecule.
Commitment to Patient Access
This partnership reflects both companies’ commitment to improving patient access to advanced renal-care therapies. As per Business Standard, such alliances help Sun Pharma expand its speciality care portfolio, while enabling AstraZeneca to scale up distribution.
Addressing Clinical Need
Hyperkalaemia is a serious condition, particularly in patients with chronic kidney disease or heart failure. By combining AstraZeneca’s innovation with Sun Pharma’s vast reach, the companies aim to reach more high-risk individuals and deliver this life-changing therapy more broadly.
