The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has launched a new heat-health protocol to protect residents from rising temperatures and increasing heat-related health risks. The protocol outlines measures for officials, healthcare workers and frontline teams to follow during heat events.
417 Cooling Centres Identified
As part of the initiative, the GBA has identified 417 government facilities as immediate cooling centres. These include 162 Indira Canteens, 108 Namma Clinics, 140 Urban Primary Health Centres and seven referral hospitals.
As per The New Indian Express, the move will help Bengaluru strengthen its response to extreme heat by improving access to cooling facilities and healthcare support.
Focus on Early Action
The new protocol will strengthen early-warning systems, community preparedness and coordination between civic and health authorities. Officials are also considering additional weather-monitoring stations in heat-prone areas to improve forecasting and response.
Citywide Implementation Planned
The GBA plans to implement the heat-health protocol across all five city corporations. The initiative aims to improve Bengaluru’s long-term heat resilience through better planning, timely warnings and coordinated public-health action.
