As cancer cases rise across India, healthcare experts are increasingly recognising the importance of emotional and social support alongside medical treatment. Fear, anxiety, isolation and uncertainty can significantly affect patients and their families during and after treatment.

Recognising this need, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, organised a Breast Cancer Support Group Meet-Up, bringing together more than 40 cancer patients, survivors and caregivers for an afternoon of shared experiences, expert guidance and emotional support.

Creating a Safe Space for Recovery

As per the press release, the interactive session gave participants an opportunity to discuss their concerns, challenges and experiences with others who had faced a similar journey. The programme highlighted the role of social connection, counselling and emotional well-being in supporting recovery.

The session featured expert guidance from Dr. Aditi Agrawal, Consultant General Surgery & Breast Oncosurgery; Dr. Priyank Chawathe, Consultant Surgical Oncology & Robotic Surgery; Dr. Hajuma Chaki, Senior Physiotherapist; and Dt. Riya Desai, Dietitian. Discussions covered cancer treatment, recovery, physical rehabilitation, nutrition and the need for continued support after treatment.

Human Connection Strengthens Recovery

Dr. Aditi Agrawal said that cancer care extends beyond treating the disease and includes helping patients regain confidence and emotional strength. She emphasised that connecting with people who understand their experiences can help patients feel less alone.

Similarly, Dr. Priyank Chawathe highlighted that while medical science treats cancer, meaningful human connections can make recovery stronger by helping patients share experiences, overcome fear and regain confidence.

Supporting Patients Beyond Treatment

The programme also stressed the importance of post-treatment counselling, healthy lifestyle practices and rehabilitation. Through the initiative, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, reaffirmed its focus on holistic cancer care, extending support beyond medical treatment through counselling, compassion, rehabilitation and community support.
