Brainlab and Amrita Hospital Partner to Launch Brain and Spine Centre in Faridabad

Brainlab and Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish North India’s first Centre of Excellence for Brain & Spine powered by Brainlab’s Loop-X® Mobile Imaging Robot. The collaboration aims to strengthen access to advanced, technology-enabled neurosurgical and spine care across the region. The dedicated centre, ACNS – the Advanced Centre of Excellence for Neuro & Spine at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, will combine the hospital’s clinical expertise in neurology and neurosurgery with Brainlab’s surgical navigation and intraoperative imaging technologies.

Centre to Support Complex Brain and Spine Procedures

ACNS will provide an advanced environment for complex brain and spine surgeries. In addition, the centre will serve as a platform for clinical training, technology demonstrations and knowledge exchange among surgeons and other healthcare professionals. By bringing clinical expertise and advanced surgical technologies together, the centre will support the treatment of complex Neuro and Spine cases while enabling clinicians to learn, collaborate and train on emerging surgical techniques.

Loop-X® Brings 2D and 3D Imaging into the Operating Room

At the core of the centre will be Loop-X®, Brainlab’s robotic mobile imaging system. The system provides 2D and 3D cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging directly inside the operating room. Consequently, surgical teams can obtain detailed images during procedures and integrate them with navigation technology. This enables surgeons to assess anatomy, guide surgical procedures and verify results before the patient leaves the operating room. Moreover, intraoperative imaging allows surgeons to verify implant positioning and acquire additional images when clinically required. This capability can be particularly useful during complex brain and spine procedures where precise anatomical information is essential. Loop-X® also supports patient-specific imaging by focusing scans on the treatment area, helping optimise radiation exposure according to clinical requirements.

Strengthening Amrita Hospital’s Neurosciences Capabilities

The collaboration builds on Amrita Hospital, Faridabad’s existing neurosciences programme, which treats a broad range of complex brain and spine disorders. Its capabilities include image-guided neurosurgery, minimally invasive procedures, functional neurosurgery, movement disorder interventions, epilepsy surgery and complex craniospinal procedures. Furthermore, the hospital already uses Brainlab navigation and integrated intraoperative ultrasonography. The addition of Loop-X® will further enhance this technology-enabled surgical ecosystem by introducing advanced 3D imaging directly into the operating room.

Supporting Precision in Functional Neurosurgery

The technology can also support functional neurosurgery, where surgeons work with highly precise anatomical targets within the brain. Loop-X® can facilitate intraoperative imaging, registration and verification of lead placement. This includes procedures requiring implanted leads to be positioned with a high degree of precision.

Creating a Hub for Clinical Training and Knowledge Exchange

Beyond patient care, ACNS will provide a dedicated environment for clinical learning and collaboration. Brainlab and Amrita Hospital will use the centre for technology demonstrations, professional training and knowledge sharing around evolving surgical technologies and techniques. As a result, the centre is designed to connect advanced imaging, surgical navigation, robotics and clinical expertise within a single technology-enabled environment.

Amrita Hospital Highlights Technology-Enabled Care

Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, said, “The opening of this dedicated centre is proof of our pledge to continuously enhancing the capabilities available to patients requiring complex neuro and spine care. With advanced intraoperative imaging and navigation, we can help our clinical teams by providing better visibility during surgery and allowing for verification in the operating room itself.” He added, “Our partnership with Brainlab will further augment the technology-enabled ecosystem at Amrita Hospital, Faridabad and help us take the delivery of specialised care for patients across the region to the next level.”

Advanced Imaging for Complex Surgical Workflows

Loop-X® combines robotic positioning with 2D and 3D intraoperative imaging. Its scalable field of view can adapt to different clinical requirements, while its large gantry opening supports different patient positions. In addition, its robotic design allows surgical teams to repeat imaging during a procedure when clinically required. This flexibility can support image-guided workflows across a range of complex neurosurgical and spine procedures.
