In a major expansion of its public healthcare infrastructure, the Delhi government will virtually inaugurate 34 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) on July 24. These free, walk-in clinics will open across all 11 districts of the national capital as part of the second phase of the rollout.

District-Wise Distribution of Centres

The list of upcoming centres includes:

  • Central Delhi: 5
  • East Delhi: 4
  • New Delhi: 2
  • North District 1: 1
  • Northwest Delhi: 5
  • Shahdara: 4
  • South Delhi: 3
  • Southeast Delhi: 1
  • Southwest Delhi: 3
  • West Delhi: 4
  • Northeast Delhi: 2

New Government Clinics Replace Mohalla Clinics

These AAMs were introduced by the BJP-led Delhi government after it came to power earlier this year. They replace the Mohalla Clinics, a flagship healthcare initiative of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration. The new clinics, however, continue to operate out of some of the same spaces and retain familiarity for residents.

Residents Welcome Refurbished Clinics

In Rodgran near Sadanand Marg, locals say the former Mohalla Clinic has been transformed but remains an important community hub. “Everyone used the old clinic. Now, it’s repainted and called an Arogya Mandir, but we still refer to it as the Mohalla Clinic,” said M Amjed, a 45-year-old shop owner.

Afroz Khan, another local resident, noted that the clinic remains functional and reliable. “My diabetic father needs monthly medication. We feared the clinic would shut, but it’s still working. He got his medicines easily after it reopened as an Arogya Mandir,” he shared.

Footfall Rises at Existing Arogya Mandirs

Meanwhile, the refurbished Ayushman Arogya Mandirs at Tis Hazari Court complex has witnessed increased patient traffic since its inauguration on July 16. A staff member reported, “Earlier we saw 30–40 patients a day. Now, the number has grown to about 60, with more female patients visiting.”

As reported by Hindustan Times, the clinic currently has no medicine shortage. “According to the Essential Drug List, we should stock 105 types of medicines. We currently have 80% of that inventory and are meeting patient needs,” the staff member added.

Over 1,000 Clinics Planned by 2026

On July 6, during an event at Vigyan Bhawan, Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced plans to establish 1,100 AAMs across the city by March 31, 2026. Health Minister Pankaj Singh confirmed that around 40 Arogya Mandirs are ready and will be inaugurated virtually this month.
