Renowned Kashmiri gastroenterologist Dr Hameed Raina has once again brought pride to Jammu and Kashmir by winning his fourth international award in recent years for excellence in advanced endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and cutting-edge endoscopic techniques in gastroenterology.
Honoured at Prestigious Global Conference
According to news agency Kashmir Dot Com, Dr Raina received the Best Video Award for the second time at the International Hepatopancreaticobiliary Conference held in Dubai in 2025. This recognition underscores his continued contribution to highly specialised, minimally invasive gastrointestinal procedures.
Award-Winning Advanced Endoscopic Procedure
At the conference, Dr Raina presented his work titled “EUS-Guided Cystogastrostomy and Direct Endoscopic Necrosectomy (DEN) in Post-Pancreatitis Walled-Off Necrosis.” This advanced endoscopic procedure plays a crucial role in managing severe and complex complications of pancreatitis. International experts widely appreciated the presentation for its innovation, technical precision, and significant clinical impact.
Strong Academic and Clinical Foundation
Dr Raina hails from Hussipora, Chadoora in central Kashmir. He completed his MBBS from Government Medical College, Srinagar, followed by an MD in Internal Medicine from the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS). Subsequently, he pursued his DM in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the prestigious Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
International Training and Global Recognition
A highly respected gastroenterologist and hepatologist, Dr Raina specialises in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy as well as endoscopic ultrasound. He holds multiple international fellowships, including FMPB, FEUS, and FATE, from leading global institutions. In addition, he is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians, United Kingdom (MRCP-UK).
A First for Kashmir’s Medical Fraternity
Notably, Dr Raina is the first gastroenterologist from Kashmir to receive international recognition in the highly specialised field of endoscopic ultrasound and interventional endoscopy. His innovative work and repeated global honours mark a significant milestone, both in his professional journey and for the region’s medical community.
