H1N1 Cases Rise in Kolkata as Weather Swings Trigger Fresh Health Concerns

Hospitals across Kolkata have reported a fresh rise in H1N1 (swine flu) cases as frequent temperature fluctuations continue to affect public health. Doctors say the changing weather has created favourable conditions for the virus to spread, leading to an increase in patients with flu-like symptoms.

Doctors Advise Early Testing and Precautions

Patients have mainly reported fever, cough, sore throat and body aches, while some have developed respiratory complications that required hospital care. Health experts have advised people, especially children, senior citizens and those with underlying health conditions, to seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

Meanwhile, as per Times of India, health experts have also stressed the importance of timely diagnosis, isolation when necessary and annual influenza vaccination to reduce the risk of severe illness.

Weather Changes Fuel Virus Spread

Doctors believe the recent cycle of rain, humidity and fluctuating temperatures has weakened immunity and increased the circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses, including H1N1. Consequently, hospitals have witnessed a higher number of patients with influenza-like illnesses over the past few weeks.

Public Urged to Stay Vigilant

Health professionals have urged people to maintain good hand hygiene, wear masks if they have flu symptoms, avoid crowded places when unwell and consult a doctor instead of self-medicating. They also recommend vaccination for high-risk groups as an effective preventive measure while authorities continue to monitor the situation.
