Hospitals Asked to Strengthen Preparedness
The Jharkhand Health Department has placed the state on high alert amid potential H1N1 (swine flu) cases. Health Minister Irfan Ansari has directed hospitals to strengthen surveillance, testing and treatment preparedness.
Following a high-level review meeting, authorities asked district surveillance officers to maintain strict vigilance and ensure prompt reporting of suspected cases. As per ETHealthworld, the minister has also directed all medical college and Sadar hospitals to reserve 10 additional beds for swine flu patients.
Focus on Early Detection
Furthermore, hospitals must ensure adequate supplies of medical oxygen, essential medicines and diagnostic facilities, while keeping ICU and HDU services ready with trained staff. Authorities will also intensify monitoring of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) cases.
Surveillance at Transit Points
Meanwhile, health teams will increase surveillance at airports, railway stations and bus stands. People showing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or breathing difficulty will undergo clinical assessment and testing when required.
The Health Minister urged people not to panic but advised them to remain alert and seek timely medical care if symptoms develop.
