Three-Day Programme Focuses on Hands-On Training, Expert Mentorship and Live Surgery
Kauvery Hospital, Trichy, in association with the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Chapter, and the Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG), Tamil Nadu Chapter, hosted the 10th edition of CATALYST – Advanced Laparoscopic Surgical Skills Course from September 18 to 20, 2026, at Courtyard Marriott, Cantonment, Trichy.
The three-day programme brought together surgeons for intensive wet-lab training, expert mentorship and live laparoscopic surgery, helping participants strengthen their skills in advanced minimally invasive procedures.
Practical Learning and Expert Mentorship
CATALYST, or Centre of Academy of Training in Advanced Laparoscopy and Surgical Techniques, combined two days of hands-on wet-lab training with a day of live laparoscopic surgery. The programme also featured operative videos, technical tips and discussions on managing intraoperative challenges.
The course was directed by Dr. S. Velmurugan, HOD & Senior Consultant – Laparoscopic GI/HPB/Bariatric & Robotic Surgeon, Kauvery Hospital, with faculty and mentors from across Tamil Nadu.

Advanced Surgical Expertise
As per the press release, Kauvery Hospital’s Department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Minimal Access Surgery offers a range of advanced laparoscopic, GI and HPB procedures, including laparoscopic Whipple’s, distal pancreatectomy, colectomy, gastrectomy, oesophagectomy and liver resections. The department also undertakes obesity surgery and advanced robotic procedures.
The department is also a recognised centre for the FNB Fellowship Course in Minimal Access Surgery, recognised by the National Board of Examinations.
