In a major medical advancement, doctors at KIMS Hospitals, Thane, successfully performed an advanced gallbladder removal surgery using a single, hidden incision inside the belly button. The procedure, known as Single-Incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (SILC), offers a safer, more cosmetic, and less painful alternative to traditional laparoscopic surgery.
Patient’s Year-Long Struggle Ends with a Single Cut
As per the press release, the patient, a 41-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh, had endured severe abdominal pain for over a year due to gallstones. These stones repeatedly triggered inflammation of his pancreas, a condition called pancreatitis. Despite multiple hospital visits, his pain persisted until doctors at KIMS Hospitals recommended gallbladder removal to prevent future attacks.
A Modern, Minimal-Scar Solution
Initially, the patient hesitated to undergo conventional surgery that typically leaves multiple small cuts on the abdomen. Understanding his concern, Dr. Hemant Jain, Senior Gastrointestinal Surgeon at KIMS Hospitals, suggested SILC — a newer, minimally invasive option performed through a single, tiny incision hidden inside the belly button.
“This single-cut technique is safe and gives excellent results. It helps patients recover faster, experience less pain, and avoid visible scars. It’s a perfect blend of modern technology and patient comfort,” explained Dr. Jain.
Smooth Recovery and Quick Discharge
The operation went smoothly, and the patient recovered remarkably fast. He was discharged the very next day and expressed great satisfaction with the outcome.
Expanding the Benefits of SILC
Dr. Jain, who has successfully performed over 500 such surgeries, highlighted that this technique can also be applied to other common procedures such as appendix removal and hernia repair.
