The Ladakh administration has revised its guidelines for admission to MBBS and BDS seats under the Central Pool for the 2026–27 academic session. Under the new system, authorities will prepare a single merit list based on candidates’ NEET rankings.
The revised process replaces the earlier category-wise system used to allocate medical seats in the Union Territory.
Earlier Category-Wise System Changed
Previously, candidates were considered under separate categories based on factors such as Leh and Kargil districts, gender and reserved or unreserved status. The new guidelines will instead consider eligible candidates through a common merit list.
This change is expected to make the allocation process more straightforward and focused on merit.
Seven MBBS, Two BDS Seats
For the 2026–27 academic session, Ladakh has received seven MBBS seats and two BDS seats under the Central Pool. Eligible candidates must apply within the specified deadline, with applicants being given seven days to submit their applications.
As per the Indian Express, the revised guidelines come after changes in Ladakh’s administrative structure, including the creation of new districts.
The revised system places NEET performance at the centre of the selection process. Consequently, candidates will compete through a common merit list rather than separate district or category-based rosters.
