National Medical Commission Approves 275 Additional MBBS Seats for 2026–27

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 275 additional MBBS seats for the 2026–27 academic session. The decision will increase admission capacity in government medical colleges across Andhra Pradesh, Goa, and Jammu & Kashmir.

State-wise Seat Allocation

Andhra Pradesh has received the highest share, with 175 new MBBS seats for two government medical colleges. Goa Medical College has been granted 100 additional seats, while Government Medical College, Srinagar, has secured approval for 50 more seats.

As per India Today, the approvals are part of the NMC’s ongoing efforts to expand undergraduate medical education and improve access to quality medical training across the country.

Better Opportunities for Medical Aspirants

The additional seats will enable more students to pursue MBBS courses in government institutions. Moreover, the expansion is expected to strengthen the healthcare workforce by increasing the number of trained medical graduates in the coming years.

The newly approved seats will be available from the 2026–27 academic session, subject to the conditions laid down by the NMC.
