Advancing Home-Based Dialysis in India

Speaking at the event, Dr. Sampathkumar emphasized the growing global recognition of home-based peritoneal dialysis. He highlighted it as a beneficial option for patients with chronic kidney failure. He noted, “The PM National Health Mission and Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam initiative in Tamil Nadu have successfully integrated peritoneal dialysis to deliver healthcare right at patients’ doorsteps.”

Empowering Patients Through Home Dialysis

Highlighting the advantages of PD, Dr. Sampathkumar added, “Home-based therapy offers multiple benefits, including preserving patient autonomy, reducing hospital visits, and enhancing quality of life through better social and professional rehabilitation. The procedure is simple and can be easily learnt by patients, enabling them to perform dialysis independently at home.”

He further noted that patients can safely perform Peritoneal Dialysis even in remote locations, especially where Hemodialysis (HD) centers are scarce. This flexibility allows PD to serve as a lifeline for patients living far from urban healthcare facilities. It ensure that they maintain continuity of care with minimal disruption to daily life.
