MediSim VR, in collaboration with the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), has launched Uttarakhand’s first Center of Excellence in AI and VR-based Medical Simulation. This trailblazing initiative marks a major milestone in India’s efforts to integrate immersive technologies into healthcare education. It aligns with the transformative vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Launch During SIMULUS 2025
During the 10th edition of SIMULUS, HIMS’s annual flagship simulation event held in Dehradun from October 4–7, HIMS, in collaboration with AIIMS Rishikesh, launched the Center. The event brought together global educators, innovators, and healthcare leaders. They fostered dialogue and collaboration to advance medical simulation and training in India.
Inauguration by Dr. Vinod K. Paul
As per the press release, the Center was inaugurated by Dr. Vinod K. Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, and former Chair of several national health and education councils. Dr. Paul witnessed a live demonstration of the simulation technologies and commended the initiative. He also emphasized the need for wider adoption of AI and VR in medical education to strengthen healthcare capacity across the country.
Revolutionizing Medical Training with AI and VR
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) are redefining medical training by offering immersive, risk-free, and experiential learning platforms. These technologies allow students to practice complex clinical procedures, enhance decision-making, and reinforce theoretical knowledge through real-world simulations. Importantly, the new Center will be accessible not only to HIMS students but also to medical learners and professionals from across Uttarakhand. This accessibility expands opportunities for capacity building and professional development.
Empowering the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals
Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Ashok Kumar Deorari, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Swami Rama Himalayan University, said, “The launch of the AI- and VR-based Center of Excellence in medical simulation represents a significant leap in medical education. Our students and external learners will gain hands-on exposure in realistic and safe learning environments that foster competence, critical thinking, and innovation. This initiative will greatly benefit medical, nursing, and allied healthcare professionals by elevating the quality of their training.”
Bridging Traditional and Experiential Learning
Sabarish Chandrasekaran, Co-Founder and CEO of MediSim VR, remarked, “We are thrilled to partner with HIMS, one of India’s most respected medical institutions, to launch this pioneering Center. It bridges the gap between traditional classroom learning and next-generation experiential education. At MediSim VR, we believe such initiatives will equip future healthcare professionals with advanced skills, confidence, and global exposure.”
Looking Ahead: Shaping the Future of Medical Education
Through this partnership, MediSim VR and HIMS are setting new benchmarks in healthcare education by blending innovation with accessibility. As India progresses toward global leadership in medical sciences, this collaboration exemplifies the impact of AI- and VR-powered learning ecosystems. These technologies can transform medical training. They also prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals to excel in a constantly evolving clinical landscape.
