President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated a state-of-the-art Cancer Care Centre at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) on Thursday, marking a significant step forward in cancer treatment and support. During her visit, she also interacted with patients and appreciated the hospital’s efforts in delivering compassionate care.

Comprehensive Cancer Services Under One Roof

Healthcare professionals explained that the new facility brings together medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation therapy, and day-care chemotherapy in a single integrated space. Equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic tools, the centre offers comprehensive cancer treatment. It follows a multidisciplinary, team-based model to deliver personalised and precise care.

Visit to Shibu Soren at the Hospital

Alongside the inauguration, President Murmu visited former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren. He has been undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment at the hospital for the past five days. She also met his son, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, and inquired about her predecessor’s condition. Her office shared a photograph of the meeting on social media platform X.

Recognition of Longstanding Service

As reported by TOI, hospital authorities noted that the President’s visit was a recognition of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital’s long-standing legacy. The hospital has been delivering ethical, affordable, and high-quality healthcare for over 70 years.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr DS Rana, chairman of the Sir Ganga Ram Trust Society, outlined the hospital’s broader vision. “We aspire to expand our services beyond Delhi and reach underserved communities. Our Cancer Care Centre represents this mission of compassionate excellence. It is also our dream to establish the SGRH Medical College to strengthen our contribution to India’s healthcare system,” he stated.

Dr Ajay Swaroop, chairman of the board of management, said the centre offers the most advanced diagnostics, therapies, and after-care services for all types of cancer. He reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to delivering world-class care to every patient.
