Rainbow Children’s Medicare Acquires Majority Stake in Pratiksha Hospital, Guwahati

Rainbow Children’s Medicare Ltd. (RCML), a leading paediatric multi-specialty and perinatal care hospital chain, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a majority stake in Pratiksha Hospital, Guwahati. This acquisition marks RCML’s strategic entry into Assam and the broader Northeast region, furthering its mission to expand specialised healthcare services in underserved cities.

Legacy of Pratiksha Hospital

Founded in 1995 by Dr. Pramod Kumar Sharma, Pratiksha Hospital began operations in Guwahati and achieved a milestone in February 1997 by delivering its first IVF baby. Over the years, it has established itself as a key healthcare provider in the region.

Expanding Capacity and Network

With this acquisition, Rainbow Children’s Medicare will add 150 beds to its capacity, increasing its total network to approximately 2,185 beds across 21 hospitals in 8 cities. The move strengthens RCML’s national presence while offering the Northeast region access to advanced paediatric and maternal healthcare.

Transaction Details

As reported by Express Healthcare, the deal values Pratiksha Hospital at an enterprise valuation of approximately ₹171 crore. RCML will acquire a controlling 76% stake, funded entirely through its cash reserves and internal accruals. Dr. Sharma and his family will retain the remaining 24% shareholding.

Connecting to a Nationwide Care Network

Once integrated, the Guwahati facility will connect to Rainbow’s regional hubs in Hyderabad, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This will enable advanced referrals and streamlined care pathways. It will also provide access to specialised paediatric and maternal services, including tertiary and quaternary care.
