Medicover Hospital played a pivotal role in saving the life of 46-year-old Mr. Vijay Bhosale from Khalapur, a key rescue volunteer with Help Foundation, who sustained life-threatening injuries during a rescue operation near the Rasayani Police Station railway premises on December 28. This incident underscores how prompt on-ground action, swift decision-making, and advanced hospital care together can transform a near-fatal emergency into a powerful story of survival and hope.
A High-Risk Rescue Turns Critical
As per the press release, during the operation, an individual in severe distress climbed an electric railway pole, creating an extremely dangerous rescue scenario near the railway premises. Unfortunately, unforeseen complications during the rescue led to a serious accident. As a result, Mr. Bhosale suffered a severe electric shock, collapsed, and became unconscious with no signs of breathing. Consequently, the situation escalated rapidly, demanding immediate and decisive action.
Immediate CPR Makes the Difference
Recognising the urgency, Mr. Gurunath Sathelkar, Founder of Help Foundation, immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the site. This timely intervention successfully restored Mr. Bhosale’s breathing and proved crucial in those critical moments. Following this, the team rushed him without delay to Medicover Hospitals for advanced emergency care.
Critical Admission and Multidisciplinary Intervention
Upon arrival at Medicover Hospital, the medical team received Mr. Bhosale in an extremely critical condition. He had sustained multiple injuries, including electric shock injury, tongue bite, inhalational injury, second-degree burns, spine and rib fractures, and soft tissue injuries.
“Our immediate priority was to stabilise his vital functions and prevent further complications,” said Mr. Neeraj Lal, Regional Director – Maharashtra and Karnataka, Medicover Hospitals. “Every minute mattered.”
Accordingly, the team initiated continuous monitoring, respiratory support, and round-the-clock critical care. The treatment plan included stabilisation of injuries, secondary suturing of the tongue bite, daily burn dressings, management of cut lacerated wounds on the right eye and great toe, fracture care, and surgical evaluations.
Coordinated Care with Advanced Infrastructure
Furthermore, a dedicated multidisciplinary team comprising ophthalmologists, dental surgeons, pulmonologists, orthopaedic specialists, ENT surgeons, general surgeons, cardiologists, and plastic surgeons managed the case using advanced medical infrastructure. Through coordinated efforts and constant reassessment, the team gradually guided Mr. Bhosale out of danger.
Recovery, Discharge, and the Power of CPR
Over the following weeks, timely interventions and structured critical care led to steady improvement in his condition. Eventually, after intensive treatment and rehabilitation, Mr. Bhosale was successfully discharged on January 12.
“The immediate CPR given at the site made a huge difference,” Mr. Lal added. “It helped maintain blood flow and oxygen to vital organs, buying precious time until advanced medical care could take over. CPR can significantly increase survival chances and reduce the risk of permanent brain damage. Therefore, CPR training is essential—it empowers ordinary people to act confidently in emergencies and save lives.”
He further emphasised that outcomes in severe trauma cases often depend on seamless teamwork. “Critical injuries demand not only advanced technology but also sound clinical judgment and continuous evaluation. Seeing Mr. Bhosale walk out of the hospital was a proud moment for the entire team.”
