Abbott Expands Lingo CGM Access to Android Users

Abbott (NYSE: ABT) announced that Lingo—its over-the-counter continuous glucose monitor (CGM) and app—is now available for Android devices. Previously accessible only on Apple iOS, this expansion enables millions more people to track their glucose in real time, supporting better energy, sleep, focus, and overall well-being.

Designed for Adults Seeking Better Health Insights

Lingo helps adults aged 18 and above who are not on insulin make informed health decisions. By displaying how food, activity, and stress influence glucose levels, Lingo helps users make small, science-backed lifestyle adjustments. As a result, 95% of Lingo members report forming new habits based on their glucose insights.

Increasing Awareness of Metabolic Health

Glucose plays a central role in powering essential body functions. Yet, despite its importance, four out of five Americans do not recognize glucose as a key indicator of overall health. Lingo aims to bridge this awareness gap by translating glucose data into actionable insights, helping users understand how glucose impacts energy, hunger, mood, and more.

Expert Perspective on the Need for Glucose Awareness

“Glucose levels and metabolic health form the foundation of well-being and chronic disease prevention. The need for greater awareness is clear,” said Amy McKenzie, Ph.D., head of Medical Affairs for Abbott’s Lingo business. She noted that prediabetes affects over 98 million U.S. adults, but 80% remain unaware of their condition. With timely lifestyle changes, prediabetes can be managed or even reversed. Lingo, she emphasized, provides real-time visibility into glucose patterns, empowering informed choices.

Lingo Count™: A Simple Metric to Track Glucose Spikes

As per the Abbott’s Press release, Lingo identifies glucose spikes and quantifies their impact through Lingo Count™, a daily score that reflects the size and duration of each spike. This metric gives users an easy way to monitor and improve their metabolic health. Among users with elevated glucose—such as those with prediabetes—reducing the Lingo Count over three months led to significant improvements, including cutting time above the healthy range by half and lowering average glucose by 10%.

New Data Highlights Benefits of Protein Supplementation

Abbott also shared real-world findings showing that protein supplements, including high-protein drinks, are associated with lower glucose levels. The impact was even stronger among individuals with obesity, a group at increased risk for type 2 diabetes and other chronic conditions.

On days when users consumed a protein supplement, they had:
• 15% lower odds of glucose spikes above the healthy range
• A 2 mg/dL reduction in average glucose

Among people with obesity, these benefits increased to an 18% reduction in spikes and a 3 mg/dL drop in average glucose. Since more time above the healthy glucose range correlates with higher diabetes risk, these insights suggest that protein supplementation may play a meaningful role in metabolic health.

Health Benefits of Maintaining Healthy Glucose Levels

Stable, healthy glucose levels improve sleep, mood, energy, cravings, and focus. Over time, elevated glucose can impair metabolic health and raise the risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. Continuous glucose monitoring with Lingo helps users identify habits that support healthy glucose patterns, ultimately contributing to long-term health.
