All India Institute of Medical Sciences Guwahati has strengthened super-specialty healthcare services in the Northeast by unveiling a state-of-the-art neurosurgical operation theatre (OT) facility. This development marks a significant step toward improving access to advanced neurological care in the region.
CSR Support Enables Cutting-Edge Infrastructure
The institute established the advanced neurosurgical OT with financial support of ₹6.5 crore from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. As a result, the funding facilitated the procurement of cutting-edge neurosurgical equipment designed to enhance precision, safety, and clinical outcomes in complex brain and spine surgeries.
Leadership Highlights Collaborative Effort
Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati, formally inaugurated the facility in the presence of key dignitaries, including Surendra Kumar Majhi, Senior General Manager and Head of Project at PGCIL. During the event, Prof. Puranik emphasised the growing role of corporate partnerships in strengthening healthcare delivery.
Improving Outcomes in Complex Neurological Cases
As reported by TOI, Prof. Puranik noted that the advanced equipment has already benefited patients with brain tumours, vascular malformations, nerve injuries, and spinal disorders. Moreover, he highlighted that such contributions remain need-based and come without conditions, reflecting a genuine commitment from corporates to support community healthcare, improve affordability, and deliver better patient outcomes.
Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure in the Northeast
Furthermore, Prof. Puranik underlined the importance of such collaborations in building robust healthcare infrastructure, particularly in emerging institutions. He reaffirmed AIIMS Guwahati’s commitment to providing high-quality and accessible care to people across the Northeast.
