Apollo Proton Cancer Centre Launches Integrated Advanced Liver Cancers Clinic

Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC) has launched an ‘Advanced Liver Cancers Clinic’, a specialised, multidisciplinary facility designed to manage primary liver cancers and liver metastases under one roof. The initiative marks a significant step toward improving outcomes for patients battling complex liver malignancies.

Clinic Inaugurated by Senior Officials

Radhakrishnan Thiagarajan, retired Additional Director-General of Police, formally inaugurated the clinic. The event was attended by Karan Puri, CEO of Apollo Cancer Centres and APCC, and Dr. Sujith Kumar Mullapally, Consultant, Medical Oncology at APCC, according to an official press release.

Liver Cancer on the Rise in India

Liver cancer has shown a significant upsurge in India over the past decade, now accounting for nearly 6% of global liver cancer cases. This increase is largely attributed to the growing prevalence of hepatitis infections, alcohol-related liver disease, obesity, and late-stage detection.

In Tamil Nadu, cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and liver metastases are becoming more common, particularly among patients with existing liver conditions. The release emphasized that the lack of dedicated liver cancer programmes has led to treatment delays and missed opportunities for early intervention.
