Aster Volunteers, the global CSR arm of Aster DM Healthcare, has strengthened its community outreach network by launching two advanced Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, and Anekal, Bengaluru, Karnataka.
With these additions, the organisation now operates 71 mobile units globally, including 49 across India. This expansion reinforces Aster’s commitment to delivering structured, last-mile healthcare services to underserved populations.
Strategic Launches in Tirupati and Anekal
In Tirupati, Aster Volunteers launched the mobile unit in collaboration with Aster Narayanadri Hospital. Shri D.S. Venkateswar, I.A.S., Collector and District Magistrate of Tirupati District, formally flagged off the unit in the presence of district officials and healthcare leaders.
Meanwhile, in Anekal, Bengaluru, the organisation partnered with Centre for Integral Rural Welfare (CIRW), Jnana Jyothi. Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz, SJ (Provincial, Karnataka Jesuit Province), Rev. Fr Arvin Luis, SJ (PDD, Karnataka Jesuit Province), and Rev. Fr. Shantaraj Thomas, SJ (Superior of Jnanajyothi) jointly flagged off the unit. Senior leaders from Aster DM Healthcare, including Vinod Chandrwal (Head ESG – CSR and Sustainability), Hari Prasad VK (Head of Internal Audit, Risk & Compliance), and Kuldeep Pathak (Deputy General Manager – Human Resources), also attended the launch.
Strengthening Last-Mile Healthcare Delivery
Speaking at the launch, Mr. T. J. Wilson, Executive Director of Aster DM Healthcare, emphasized the organisation’s mission to deliver healthcare directly to communities. He stated that these mobile units reflect Aster’s belief that quality healthcare must reach people where they live.
Furthermore, he explained that the units focus on preventive screening, early diagnosis, and timely intervention. By combining strong local partnerships with digital integration, Aster aims to build scalable outreach models that eliminate geographic and economic barriers to healthcare access.
Designed for Safe, Efficient, and Inclusive Care
Both Mobile Medical Units feature medical-grade interiors with clearly designated zones for registration, consultation, examination, and pharmacy services. The design prioritizes patient safety, comfort, and operational efficiency.
Additionally, the units include proper ventilation and air conditioning, ramps for elderly and differently-abled patients, reliable power backup, clean water supply, handwashing stations, and compliant medical waste disposal systems. Core safety features—such as fire protection systems, emergency kits, and GPS-enabled communication—further strengthen operational readiness.
Equipped for Preventive and Primary Care Services
As per the press release, the mobile units support a comprehensive range of essential healthcare services. They provide free primary consultations, non-communicable disease (NCD) screening, maternal and child health services, health education, and referrals for advanced treatment.
Moreover, they incorporate basic diagnostic tools and digital point-of-care devices. Integrated digital systems—including electronic medical records (EMR), tablet-based patient registration linked to secure remote servers, follow-up tools, and impact reporting dashboards—ensure continuity of care and measurable outcomes.
Advancing Equitable and Inclusive Healthcare
Aster Volunteers continues to expand into emerging towns and underserved regions, guided by the principles of accessibility and affordability. Through structured outreach initiatives, the organisation seeks to close persistent healthcare access gaps and deliver timely, preventive, and need-based services.
Ultimately, these new mobile units reaffirm Aster Volunteers’ long-term commitment to equitable, inclusive, and community-centered healthcare delivery.
