CSIR-IICT to Promote Indigenous Surgical Adhesive for Rapid Wound Closure

The CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), Hyderabad, is promoting an indigenous surgical adhesive designed to enable rapid wound closure and tissue sealing. The biocompatible adhesive uses alkyl 2-cyanoacrylate technology and can provide instant bonding even under moist conditions.

The technology could help reduce the need for conventional sutures in selected surgical procedures while supporting faster wound closure.

Technology Moves Towards Commercialisation

Importantly, the product has already been licensed and launched in collaboration with a pharmaceutical company. However, CSIR-IICT is now seeking additional industry partners to expand its commercialisation and reach.

As per Ten News, the technology was developed as an indigenous tissue adhesive that can support rapid wound closure and tissue sealing.

Potential Benefits in Surgical Care

Unlike conventional suturing, the adhesive can bond tissue rapidly and work effectively in moist conditions. Therefore, it could offer surgeons an alternative approach for closing selected wounds and surgical incisions.

Moreover, wider adoption of such indigenous medical technologies could strengthen India’s capabilities in developing and commercialising locally developed healthcare solutions.
