Employees who skip annual health check-ups are nearly three times more likely to be hospitalised than those who undergo regular screenings, according to a joint report by MediBuddy and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The report, Workplace Health Reimagined: India’s Health AI Frontier — Building for Bharat, Leading the World, found that employees who completed three annual health check-ups had a 2.41% hospitalisation rate, compared with 7.27% among those who skipped all screenings. As per the press release, the findings are based on an analysis of 10,551 employees.
Preventive Care Gap
The report revealed that 25% of employees who skipped annual health check-ups accounted for 46% of hospitalisation claims and 43% of insurance payouts. It also found that 52% of employees took no action after health check-ups due to a lack of personalised guidance or follow-up.
Workplace Health and Productivity
Cardiac medicines accounted for 20.34% of pharmacy dispensations, highlighting the growing burden of heart disease, while diabetes testing continued to rise. The report also estimated that poor employee mental health costs Indian employers ₹1.1 lakh crore annually through absenteeism, presenteeism and attrition.
Organisations Need Better Health Strategies
The report introduced India’s first Workplace Health Maturity Curve, which found that 73% of organisations remain at the earliest stages of workplace health management, with fewer than 2% adopting AI-enabled, preventive health programmes. It stressed that personalised and continuous healthcare can improve employee wellbeing, productivity and retention.
