Fortis Healthcare acquired Suguna Hospital in Bengaluru for approximately ₹277 crore through a slump sale from Suguna Ramaiah Hospitals and other sellers. Fortis Healthcare’s wholly owned subsidiary, International Hospital Limited (IHL), completed the transaction, acquiring the hospital’s entire business operations, including the underlying land and building. Structured as an all-cash deal, the acquisition aligns with Fortis Healthcare’s cluster-focused inorganic growth strategy. Furthermore, it strengthens the company’s presence in Bengaluru, particularly in the North-West corridor, and creates opportunities to expand its healthcare services in the region.
Suguna Hospital Acquisition Strengthens Bengaluru Network
Commissioned in 2006, Suguna Hospital is a 110-bed multispeciality facility located on Dr Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar, North-West Bengaluru. The hospital has the potential to expand its capacity to 150 beds. Located in a densely populated and affluent catchment with strong connectivity, the facility offers significant opportunities for further growth. With this acquisition, Fortis Healthcare aims to strengthen its position among the leading healthcare providers in North-West Bengaluru. The company’s facilities in Rajajinagar, People Tree Hospital in Yeshwanthpur and Suguna Hospital together offer approximately 500 potential beds. Including its operations and management (O&M) facilities, Fortis now has around 1,000 operational beds across Bengaluru.
Fortis Plans Investment in Medical Infrastructure and Clinical Services
Suguna Hospital recorded revenue of approximately ₹50 crore in FY26. Fortis plans to invest in upgrading the hospital’s medical infrastructure, expanding clinical programmes and increasing bed capacity. These improvements will enable the company to leverage its established brand presence, strengthen clinical capabilities and improve the facility’s operational performance. Additionally, Fortis expects to benefit from its existing healthcare network, operational scale and synergies to optimise hospital operations and enhance patient care.
Fortis Leadership Highlights Strategic Importance of Acquisition
Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, Managing Director and CEO, Fortis Healthcare, said, “This acquisition expands our presence in the city and specifically in the North West Bengaluru corridor which we believe is an underserved catchment. With Suguna hospitals in our portfolio, we now have 1,000 operational beds in the city including our O&M facilities; reinforcing our strategy of expanding and deepening our presence in our focused clusters. We foresee significant opportunities to leverage our existing network and drawing from scale and synergy efficiencies to optimize operations, while further strengthening our clinical capabilities and brand presence.”
Suguna Hospital Promoters Welcome the Partnership
Dr R Ravindra and Sujatha Ravindra, promoters of Suguna Hospital, said, “Over the years, Suguna Hospital has grown with a clear focus on delivering accessible and quality healthcare. The agreement with Fortis Healthcare represents an important step in the hospital’s next phase of growth. Fortis brings significant clinical expertise, operational capabilities and resources that will enable the hospital to expand its offerings and strengthen the care it provides to patients. We are confident that the transition will create new opportunities for the hospital and its employees while preserving the principles and values that have defined Suguna Hospital’s journey.” As reported by pharmabiz.com, the acquisition marks another step in Fortis Healthcare’s expansion strategy in Bengaluru. By integrating Suguna Hospital into its existing network, the company aims to increase its regional reach, strengthen clinical services and create additional capacity to meet the growing demand for quality healthcare.
