Fortis Hospital, Mulund has launched its reimagined and enhanced next-generation Emergency Medicine Department — the ‘New Age ER’ — to deliver rapid, protocol-driven, and outcome-focused emergency care. Equipped with advanced resuscitation infrastructure and globally benchmarked workflows, the upgraded facility marks a significant leap in emergency preparedness for Mumbai.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Hemarajsingh Rajput, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7), who joined Dr. S. Narayani, Business Head – Fortis Hospitals Maharashtra; Dr. Vishal Beri, Facility Director; and Dr. Sandeep Gore, Director – Emergency Medicine.
Expanded Infrastructure with Advanced Clinical Capabilities
As per the press release, the newly designed Emergency Department now houses 27 beds, including two isolation beds. Moreover, it integrates structured clinical pathways, advanced bedside diagnostics, and seamless multidisciplinary coordination to manage time-sensitive emergencies such as heart attack, acute stroke, septic shock, polytrauma, pulmonary embolism, and other critical conditions where rapid intervention determines survival.
Led by Dr. Sandeep Gore, the Emergency Medicine team has managed over two lakh medical emergencies in the past 15 years, consistently delivering outcomes that exceed global benchmarks.
Technology-Driven, Protocol-Led Emergency Response
Importantly, the department pioneers POCUS-led resuscitation and advanced Point-of-Care Testing (POCT), enabling clinicians to perform bedside diagnostics within minutes. Backed by 15 years of robust clinical data and a culture of continuous quality improvement, the model emphasizes measurable outcomes and 24×7 specialized emergency coverage.
The ‘New Age ER’ features:
- Dedicated high-acuity resuscitation bays with advanced monitoring systems
- Integrated POCUS and bedside imaging support
- Streamlined triage and rapid treatment zones
- Expanded observation and critical care holding areas
- CMO-ready resuscitation capabilities
- Fast-track emergency outpatient care
- Simulation and training spaces for doctors and nurses
- Digital dashboards for real-time quality and safety monitoring
Clinical Excellence Backed by Data
Dr. Sandeep Gore emphasized that modern emergency medicine depends on protocols, preparedness, and precision. He stated that the reimagined ER strengthens the hospital’s ability to deliver time-critical interventions through rapid triage, integrated care pathways, and round-the-clock availability of trained emergency response teams.
He further highlighted that the hospital’s data in STEMI, stroke, sepsis, trauma, and cardiac arrest demonstrates survival outcomes consistently better than global benchmarks.
Rare Survival Stories Highlight Advanced Resuscitation
Representing hundreds of patients who received life-saving CPR at the hospital, two survivors attended the inauguration ceremony.
Ms. Santoshi Kumavat (52) survived a massive pulmonary embolism after 35 minutes of continuous CPR. Doctors administered thrombolysis during ongoing resuscitation, and she recovered without neurological deficit.
Similarly, Ms. Vinita Bipin (50) regained pulse after 60 minutes of CPR. She subsequently underwent primary angioplasty and made a full neurological recovery. Such outcomes after prolonged resuscitation remain exceptionally rare worldwide.
Strengthening First-Responder Collaboration
During the ceremony, Hemarajsingh Rajput underscored the vital role of traffic police officers as first responders who stabilize situations and clear routes for ambulances. He noted that when efficient road response aligns with a fully equipped emergency department, lives are saved.
In line with this vision, Fortis Hospital, Mulund continues to collaborate with civic stakeholders, traffic authorities, and first responders to strengthen regional emergency networks. Between 2019 and 2026, the hospital trained 14,530 police and traffic personnel in CPR administration. Moving forward, the team will train and certify all traffic and police personnel across Thane–Mulund–Bhandup in emergency preparedness, first aid, patient stabilization, and safe transfer protocols.
A Benchmark for Modern Emergency Care
Dr. Vishal Beri stated that the ‘New Age ER’ combines advanced infrastructure with strong clinical expertise to ensure preparedness during critical moments. From rapid bedside diagnostics to coordinated emergency response teams, every aspect of the department has been designed for speed and efficiency.
Ultimately, designed for speed, science, and survival, the ‘New Age ER’ at Fortis Hospital, Mulund sets a new benchmark for modern emergency care delivery in Mumbai. The hospital’s unified 24/7 emergency helpline — 022 41114111 — continues to provide rapid access to its Level 1 trauma centre.
