The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, has significantly strengthened its paediatric orthopaedic capabilities with support from Healthium MedTech’s CSR initiative and implementation by Plan International India Chapter. As a result, the institute is now fully equipped to perform advanced paediatric orthopaedic surgeries for children across western Uttar Pradesh.
With the addition of specialised surgical equipment, GIMS can now treat conditions such as developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), clubfoot, limb deformities, fractures, and complex bone disorders with greater precision and safety.
Advanced Equipment Enhances Surgical Capabilities
To improve paediatric orthopaedic care, the initiative equipped GIMS with advanced medical technologies, including:
- Midas Rex MR8 High Speed Electric Drill System
- Paediatric Hip Plating Set
- Paediatric and Small Bone Drill & Saw System
- Paediatric Orthopaedic Instrument Set
- C-Arm Machine
Consequently, the hospital can now deliver age-appropriate surgical interventions while reducing dependence on referrals to distant healthcare centres.
Addressing a Critical Healthcare Gap
India continues to face a substantial burden of paediatric orthopaedic disorders. Nearly 1–2 percent of children are born with conditions such as clubfoot, while many others develop deformities due to trauma, infections, or untreated medical conditions.
In states like Uttar Pradesh, limited access to specialised paediatric orthopaedic care often delays treatment. This, in turn, increases the risk of complications, disability, and higher treatment costs for families.
Recognising this challenge, the strengthened infrastructure at GIMS aims to provide timely and accessible treatment closer to patients’ homes.
Initiative Expected to Benefit Over 1,000 Children Annually
As per the press release, the upgraded facility is expected to benefit more than 1,000 children every year by enabling early diagnosis and timely surgical intervention. Moreover, the initiative will help reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for specialised treatment.
Leaders Highlight Importance of Accessible Child Healthcare
Speaking at the launch event, Chief Guest Dr. G.N. Singh, Adviser to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, emphasised the importance of equitable healthcare access.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has access to quality and timely healthcare. Strengthening public health institutions through such partnerships is essential for building an inclusive and equitable healthcare system,” he said.
Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Director General, GIMS, highlighted the institute’s enhanced clinical capabilities.
“With this advanced equipment, GIMS is now prepared to handle complex paediatric orthopaedic cases with greater precision and safety. This development will significantly reduce referrals and ensure that children receive timely treatment closer to home,” he stated.
Partners Emphasise Long-Term Impact
Anish Bafna, CEO and MD, Healthium MedTech, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to improving healthcare access and clinical outcomes.
“At Healthium, we focus on improving clinical outcomes by enabling innovation and expanding access to quality care. Supporting the GIMS and Plan International India Chapter project reflects our efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery systems and equip providers with the tools needed to deliver specialised paediatric orthopaedic care,” he said.
He further added that enhancing on-ground medical capabilities would help ensure timely and reliable treatment for children who need it most.
Similarly, Shri Mohammed Asif, Executive Director, Plan International India Chapter, stressed the importance of partnerships in expanding healthcare access.
“Through this collaboration, we are strengthening access to specialised paediatric healthcare for vulnerable communities. This intervention will directly benefit over 1,000 children annually by ensuring timely, safe, and life-changing orthopaedic treatment without financial or geographic barriers,” he said.
He also noted that public-private partnerships play a crucial role in expanding specialised healthcare services for underserved populations.
Launch Event Marks New Milestone for GIMS
The launch event featured a ceremonial inauguration, screening of an impact film, beneficiary testimonials, addresses by dignitaries, and the formal handover of equipment to the GIMS orthopaedics department.
With this initiative, GIMS is emerging as a key centre for paediatric orthopaedic care in western Uttar Pradesh. The strengthened infrastructure will help children access advanced treatment, regain mobility, and lead healthier and more independent lives.
