Tamil Nadu has increased the annual insurance cover under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh, aiming to improve access to advanced medical care.
The state will also establish a 400-bed multispeciality hospital in Perambur, Chennai, at a cost of ₹300 crore. The facility will cater to the healthcare needs of north Chennai and provide advanced medical services.
Expansion of Cancer Care
The government will upgrade the Chief Minister’s Cancer Care Mission with an investment of ₹673.44 crore. An integrated cancer treatment facility will come up at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, while regional cancer care centres will be established at five government medical college hospitals.
Boost to Healthcare Workforce
As per ETHealthworld, the state will create around 6,098 additional seats in nursing, pharmacy and paramedical courses at a cost of ₹351 crore. This includes seven new government nursing colleges offering 660 BSc Nursing seats.
Additionally, the insurance scheme will cover medical and surgical services for transgender persons at seven government medical college hospitals across the state.
