The Haryana government will roll out a comprehensive mental health scheme at the block level to tackle growing challenges in mental healthcare. Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Health, Sumita Misra, announced the initiative during a health department review meeting held on Saturday.

Focus on Capacity Building and Critical Care

Meanwhile, the ACS directed officials to initiate structured training programmes for doctors and nurses. These programmes will place special emphasis on intensive care unit (ICU) operations and critical care management to strengthen clinical preparedness across government facilities.

Rapid Progress in Digital Health Adoption

At the same time, Misra highlighted Haryana’s strong performance in digital health adoption. The state has created 1.77 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs, enabling citizens to maintain digital health records and access services seamlessly across healthcare facilities.

In addition, over 423 health facilities are now live on the NextGen e-Hospital platform. This shift has enabled paperless operations, reduced patient waiting times, and significantly improved the overall patient experience.

Significant Increase in Health Budget and Infrastructure

As reported by Hindustan Times, Misra noted a substantial rise in health sector funding over the past decade. Budgetary allocations increased from ₹2,646 crore in 2014–15 to ₹9,941.97 crore in 2025–26, marking a nearly four-fold jump.

As a result of this sustained investment, Haryana has strengthened its health infrastructure considerably. The state currently operates 3,672 health institutions with a combined bed capacity of 14,656. Development continues at pace, with 74 projects under construction through the state budget and 390 projects being implemented under the National Health Mission.

Improved Maternal and Reproductive Health Indicators

Importantly, the ACS pointed to notable improvements in key health indicators. The total fertility rate (TFR) has declined to 1.9, reflecting better family planning awareness and stronger reproductive health services.

Moreover, institutional deliveries have reached 98.8%, contributing to safer childbirth practices and a reduction in maternal mortality across the state.
