Union Health Minister JP Nadda met Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko on Thursday to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the health sector. During the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to providing accessible, affordable and high-quality healthcare.
The Ministry of Health announced on X that the discussions centred on key health priorities, with both sides agreeing to deepen collaboration. It added that India and Russia reiterated their shared vision of advancing equitable healthcare for all.
High-Level Engagements Ahead of Putin’s Visit
As reported by theshillongtimes, the meeting took place as Russian President Vladimir Putin began his two-day State visit to India. Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov. Together, they co-chaired the 22nd India–Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military Technical Cooperation in New Delhi.
According to the Defence Ministry, the two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of defence ties and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Putin’s First India Visit Since Ukraine Conflict
Putin’s trip marks his first visit to India since the Russia–Ukraine conflict began in 2022. On Friday, he will receive a ceremonial welcome before holding formal talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the discussions, both leaders will address the media. Putin is also scheduled to lay a wreath at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial.
Key Agreements Expected During Talks
Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov stated that Putin will discuss major bilateral issues and the global situation with PM Modi. The leaders will also focus on strengthening trade and economic cooperation. Several agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, including an arrangement to facilitate the movement of Indian workers to Russia.
