Promoting Preventive Healthcare and Holistic Wellbeing
As part of its ongoing commitment to preventive healthcare and holistic wellbeing, the Illness to Wellness Foundation, in association with the Celiac Society of India, organised an interactive programme titled “The Longevity Blueprint – Gut Health and InflammAgeing.” The event took place at the India International Centre and brought together leading experts to discuss the vital role of natural diets, balanced nutrition, and gut health in promoting longevity.

As per the press release, the session emphasised that everyday food choices and lifestyle habits significantly influence chronic inflammation and long-term wellbeing.

Expert-Led Discussion on Gut Health and Inflammageing
Moderated by Dr. Arjun Dang, CEO and Partner at Dr. Dang’s Lab, the panel featured specialists from geriatrics, psychiatry, nutrition, integrative medicine, and Ayurveda. Together, they explored the growing link between gut health, chronic inflammation, and longevity.

Importantly, the discussion highlighted inflammageing—a state of persistent, low-grade inflammation that gradually accelerates ageing and contributes to multiple lifestyle-related disorders.

Nutrition as the Foundation of Gut Health
Ishi Khosla, Clinical Nutritionist and Founder of the Celiac Society of India, addressed the impact of modern dietary habits on gut health. She stressed that most essential nutrients are already available in everyday kitchens.

She explained that individuals can take control of their health by choosing wholesome, balanced meals. Moreover, even small, mindful dietary changes can improve digestion, reduce inflammation, and support healthier ageing over time.

Redefining Longevity Beyond Lifespan
Prasun Chatterjee, Chief of Geriatric Medicine, reframed longevity as not just living longer but living healthier. He compared the human body to a well-maintained vehicle, noting that proper care ensures long-term efficiency.

Furthermore, he emphasised the central role of the gut—often called the “second brain”—in sustaining health. He also challenged the overreliance on supplements, stating that a balanced traditional Indian diet can adequately meet nutritional needs when consumed appropriately.

The Gut–Brain Axis and Mental Wellbeing
Highlighting the connection between digestion and mental health, Aarti Midha, Integrative Psychiatrist and Functional Medicine Practitioner, explained the concept of the gut–brain axis.

She noted that the brain constantly communicates with the gut, influencing mood, emotions, and cognitive function. Consequently, poor gut health can contribute to conditions such as anxiety and depression, reinforcing the need for dietary and digestive balance.

Ayurvedic Insights on Balance and Longevity
From an Ayurvedic perspective, Partap Chauhan, Founder and Director of Jiva Ayurveda, underscored the importance of holistic balance. He explained that Ayurveda focuses on harmony between the body, mind, senses, and soul.

Additionally, he highlighted that strong digestion and alignment with natural rhythms naturally promote vitality and longevity.

Understanding Biological Ageing
Pankaj Verma, Medical Director at Antara Integrated Wellness Centre, Gurugram, distinguished between chronological and biological age.

He pointed out that while chronological age reflects years lived, biological age indicates how well the body functions. Factors such as inflammation, stress, and metabolic health accelerate ageing. Therefore, early intervention can slow biological ageing and improve long-term outcomes.

Practical Strategies for Healthy Ageing
The panel also shared actionable strategies to support gut health and longevity. Experts recommended increasing fibre intake to nourish the gut microbiome and incorporating naturally fermented foods into daily diets.

In addition, they encouraged consuming diverse plant-based foods rich in phytonutrients. From an Ayurvedic standpoint, they highlighted the role of rasayanas in enhancing resilience and vitality. They also noted that periodic fasting, when practised appropriately, can help reset digestion and support overall gut health.

Encouraging Preventive Health Mindset
On the sidelines of the programme, Anil Rajput, Chairperson of the Advisory Council at the Illness to Wellness Foundation, reinforced the importance of prevention. He emphasised that neglecting wellness today leads to managing illness later.

He further advocated for prioritising balanced nutrition, traditional food wisdom, and healthy lifestyle practices. Through initiatives like The Longevity Blueprint, he aims to inspire individuals to make mindful daily choices and reconnect with natural foods.

Conclusion: Small Changes, Lasting Impact
In conclusion, the programme delivered a unified message: healthy ageing begins with simple, consistent daily habits. By prioritising gut health through balanced nutrition and mindful living, individuals can effectively reduce inflammation and enhance long-term health, vitality, and overall wellbeing.
