Kerala to Launch ₹14.39 Crore AYUSH Initiatives on Ayurveda Day

In a major push to promote traditional and holistic healthcare, the Kerala government will unveil 12 new AYUSH projects worth ₹14.39 crore on the occasion of the 10th Ayurveda Day, being observed on September 23.

Health, Women and Child Development Minister Veena George will inaugurate the state-level event at 4 PM at Muscat Hotel, Thiruvananthapuram. Shri VK Prashant, MLA, will preside over the function.

Projects Cover Maternal Care, Lifestyle Diseases, and Digital Access

The projects span a wide range of healthcare priorities including maternal and child health, digital healthcare access, mental wellness, yoga promotion, and treatment for chronic and lifestyle diseases.

According to an official press release, most of the initiatives are already operational and aim to strengthen Kerala’s healthcare delivery under the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) system.

Key Projects Announced:

  • Suthikamitram – Provides scientific Ayurveda-based prenatal and postnatal care for women.
  • Supraja – Focuses on improving maternal health during and after pregnancy while supporting child growth.
  • AYUSH Yoga Club App – Connects users to over 10,000 yoga clubs across the state to promote daily yoga routines.
  • Specialty Clinics for Non-Communicable Diseases – Offers Ayurveda-based care to prevent and manage lifestyle diseases.

Next Gen E-Hospital System Goes Live

One of the major digital initiatives is the Next Gen E-Hospital System, covering 240 institutions under the AYUSH Department. The platform enables online outpatient appointment booking and seamless access to medical records.

Ayurveda Reaches Remote Regions

Taking Ayurveda to hard-to-reach areas, the government is also launching Arogya Nauka, a floating Ayurvedic clinic that will serve 26 locations in the backwaters of Alappuzha’s Kuttanad region.

In another significant expansion, the Sports Ayurveda project will add 10 new centers, bringing the total to 23 across all districts—to offer Ayurvedic treatments for sports injuries.

New Clinics and Schemes Rolled Out

Other important additions include:

  • Ayurkarma Scheme – Delivers Panchakarma and other treatments through 25 new dispensaries for economically weaker sections.
  • Infertility Clinics – Now operational in Kasaragod, Palakkad, and Thiruvananthapuram.
  • Mental Health Programme ‘Harsham’ – Now covers all districts after successful rollout in six regions.
  • ‘Drishti’ Eye Care Initiative – Expands Ayurvedic eye care to all districts.
  • Joint and Musculo-Skeletal Disorder Clinics – Provide targeted Ayurveda-based treatment for joint diseases.
  • National Osteoarthritis Programme – Focuses on the prevention and management of musculoskeletal disorders through AYUSH systems.

Theme 2025: “Ayurveda for People and Planet”

This year’s theme, “Ayurveda for People and Planet,” highlights Ayurveda’s role in promoting not just personal health but also environmental sustainability and community well-being.
