Doctors at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, successfully treated a patient suffering from chronic testicular pain without performing surgery. By using advanced cryoablation technology, the medical team provided long-term relief through a minimally invasive needle-based procedure. Consultant Interventional Pain Physician Dr. Anusha Karumuri shared details of the treatment.
Patient Suffered Severe Pain for Eight Months
A 51-year-old patient from Hyderabad had been experiencing severe scrotal pain for the past eight months. The pain persisted while sitting, standing, and even lying down, which significantly affected his quality of life. Additionally, he experienced severe discomfort during intimate moments with his wife. Although he consulted multiple hospitals and underwent various treatments, he did not find relief.
Doctors Identified the Exact Source of Pain
After the patient approached KIMS Hospitals, Dr. Anusha Karumuri and her team carefully evaluated his condition. Using ultrasound guidance, the doctors identified the exact pain-generating area before proceeding with cryoablation therapy.
As per the press release, the pain medicine department at KIMS Secunderabad performed the procedure using advanced needle-based cryoablation technology.
How Cryoablation Therapy Works
During the procedure, doctors inserted a thin needle into the affected area and delivered extremely cold gas through it. Consequently, a small “ice ball” formed around the targeted nerve tissue, temporarily disabling the pain-transmitting nerve cells. As a result, the patient experienced immediate and significant pain relief.
Minimally Invasive Treatment Offers Long-Term Relief
“This treatment does not require surgery and can be completed in a short duration. It offers long-term relief with minimal discomfort to the patient. To our knowledge, this is the first time such technology has been used in the Telugu states for chronic testicular pain at KIMS Secunderabad,” said Dr. Anusha Karumuri.
Technique Can Help Treat Other Chronic Pain Conditions
Doctors further stated that this advanced cryoablation technique can also help treat several other chronic pain conditions affecting different parts of the body.
