The new Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Lab will provide non-invasive brain stimulation therapy for selected psychiatric and neurological conditions.
Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, has launched an Advanced Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Laboratory, expanding access to evidence-based, non-invasive brain stimulation therapy.
The facility will offer TMS for conditions such as treatment-resistant depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxious depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), smoking cessation and migraine. It will also support selected neurological applications, including stroke rehabilitation and post-stroke speech and language disorders.
Non-Invasive and Individualised Treatment
TMS uses controlled magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood, cognition, movement, speech and pain. The procedure does not require surgery or general anaesthesia, and patients remain awake during treatment.
As per the press release, the hospital will also consider TMS for selected patients with neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease, cerebellar ataxia, Alzheimer’s disease and tinnitus, depending on clinical assessment and available scientific evidence.
Supporting Rehabilitation and Mental Healthcare
Dr Pawan Ojha, Consultant Neurologist and Director of Neurosciences, said TMS can complement standard treatment and rehabilitation in carefully selected patients. He noted that after a stroke, appropriate protocols may support the recovery of motor function or speech and language abilities.
Meanwhile, Dr Suranjana Basak, Consultant Neurologist, highlighted TMS as an additional option for selected patients who do not respond adequately to conventional treatment. However, she emphasised that treatment response can vary and requires individual assessment and monitoring.
Expanding Access to Advanced Brain Care
Patients at the TMS Lab will undergo clinical evaluation, treatment planning and follow-up under trained healthcare professionals. The hospital will integrate TMS with medication, psychotherapy and rehabilitation wherever required.
Mr. Neeraj Lal, Regional Director for Maharashtra and Karnataka, said the new facility aims to make innovative and evidence-based brain care more accessible. Mr. Sandip Joshi, Centre Head, Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, added that the TMS Lab will strengthen the hospital’s neuropsychiatric and neurological services while providing personalised treatment options for selected patients.
