National Dental Commission Removes Provisional Registration Requirement for BDS Internship

The National Dental Commission (NDC) has removed the mandatory requirement of provisional registration before starting the Compulsory Rotatory Internship for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) graduates. The move aims to simplify the internship process and reduce delays faced by dental students.

Earlier, BDS graduates had to obtain provisional registration from State Dental Councils before beginning their internship. However, under the revised guidelines, students can now directly start their internship after completing their BDS course.

New Guidelines for Registration

The NDC has directed State Dental Councils, universities, and dental colleges to follow the updated process. After students complete their BDS course and internship, they can apply for permanent registration without submitting a provisional registration certificate.

As per Medical Dialogues, the decision came after the commission reviewed student concerns regarding procedural difficulties and delays in obtaining provisional registration.

Benefits for Dental Students

The new rule will reduce paperwork, speed up the internship process, and create a more uniform system across states. Additionally, institutions will no longer require provisional registration documents for internship-related procedures. Overall, the NDC’s decision aims to make dental education regulations more efficient and student-friendly.
