KIMS Saveera Hospital received appreciation from district authorities for restoring hearing in children through cochlear implant surgeries.
During a programme organised on Monday to mark World Hearing Day, Anantapur District Collector O. Anand and Deputy Collector C. Vishnu Charan interacted with children who had successfully undergone the procedure at the hospital.
The Collector noted that the event clearly demonstrated how children who once struggled with hearing loss can now hear, speak, and confidently participate in society. He congratulated the hospital’s management and medical team for delivering advanced and life-changing treatment to children with hearing impairment.
Transforming Lives Through Advanced Surgery
Consultant ENT Surgeon Dr. R. Raghavendra Reddy emphasised that hearing is a precious gift that enables individuals to understand and connect with the world around them. However, some children are born with hearing loss or develop it due to medical conditions.
He explained that cochlear implant surgery helps such children regain hearing and develop speech abilities, thereby significantly improving their quality of life.
Free Treatment Under Government Schemes
Although cochlear implant surgery is typically expensive, KIMS Saveera provides the procedure completely free of cost under government schemes such as Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva, EHS, and ADIP.
Moreover, the hospital offers two years of free speech therapy following surgery, ensuring comprehensive rehabilitation. As a result, children who were previously unable to hear or speak now communicate effectively and integrate confidently into mainstream society.
Dr. Reddy further highlighted that KIMS Saveera remains the only hospital in Anantapur performing cochlear implant surgeries.
Programme Impact and Early Intervention
District Coordinator for Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva, Dr. Gangadhar, stated that the initiative began in 2021 and has completed more than 50 surgeries to date. The beneficiaries range in age from one year eight months to four years eleven months.
He stressed that early intervention is crucial. Without timely treatment, children with hearing impairment may face speech difficulties, social stigma, and limited opportunities later in life. Therefore, observing World Hearing Day plays a vital role in raising awareness among parents about early detection and prompt medical care.
Hospital Leadership and Medical Team Present
As per the press release, the programme was attended by KIMS Saveera CEO Dr. P. S. Prasad, COO C. Siddareddy, Consultant Paediatrician Dr. A. Mahesh, Radiologist Dr. C. Deepa, ENT Surgeon Dr. Roja, Head of Anaesthesia & Critical Care Dr. Ravi Shankar, along with other members of the medical team.
Through sustained commitment and coordinated care, KIMS Saveera continues to transform young lives and strengthen access to advanced hearing restoration services in the region.
