P&G Health and IMA Launch India’s First Patient Recovery Guidelines for Doctors

P&G Health, the maker of well-known brands such as Polybion, Neurobion, and Livogen, has announced a landmark collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to introduce India’s first Patient Recovery Guidelines for Doctors, titled “Clinical Application of Micronutrients in Recovery.”

This evidence-based guidebook marks an important milestone in Indian healthcare. It provides clinicians with clear, step-by-step insights into the strategic use of micronutrients to support patient recovery from a wide range of acute illnesses, chronic diseases, and surgical procedures.

Evidence-Based Guidance for Clinicians

A multidisciplinary panel of leading medical experts developed and reviewed these guidelines. Their primary objective is to standardize recovery protocols and strengthen patient care practices across India.

The guide highlights the critical role of micronutrients—particularly B-complex vitamins—in accelerating recovery. These nutrients support several essential physiological processes, including reducing inflammation, promoting tissue repair, strengthening immune function, and managing oxidative stress.

Furthermore, the guidelines cover a broad range of medical scenarios. They provide practical recommendations for managing recovery from acute illnesses such as flu, diarrhea, malaria, and dengue, as well as chronic diseases, surgical interventions, and pediatric conditions. By doing so, they offer doctors a structured framework to guide patients from the onset of illness through complete recovery.

Addressing an Important Gap in Patient Care

Speaking about the initiative, Milind Thatte, Managing Director, Procter & Gamble Health Limited, emphasized the importance of evidence-based guidance in recovery care.

“At P&G Health, we remain committed to advancing patient-centered healthcare. We continuously partner with the medical community to bring evidence-based solutions that improve health outcomes and make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives. While awareness about the role of micronutrients in recovery after illnesses, infections, and surgeries is increasing, there is still limited guidance on how to use them effectively, particularly in the Indian context.

Recognizing this need for comprehensive and evidence-based recommendations, P&G Health, in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association, is proud to introduce India’s first Patient Recovery Guidelines for doctors. These guidelines will equip clinicians with a practical tool to enhance patient outcomes and help individuals regain their health and vitality more quickly.”

The Role of Micronutrients in Recovery

The guidelines also outline how micronutrient support can benefit patients in various clinical situations.

For instance, during acute illnesses and infections, micronutrients help strengthen immune responses and restore metabolic balance. Similarly, in chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, and liver disorders, targeted micronutrient support may help improve metabolic pathways and enhance long-term resilience.

While primary medications remain essential for treating diseases, effective recovery often depends on the body’s ability to repair tissues, restore physiological balance, and rebuild strength. Therefore, the guidelines highlight the often-overlooked role of micronutrients—essential vitamins and minerals required in small quantities but vital for healing and recovery.

Strengthening Holistic Patient Care

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Anilkumar J. Nayak, National President, Indian Medical Association, underscored the need for a unified approach to nutritional support during recovery.

“The Indian medical community has long sought an evidence-based framework for integrating nutritional support into patient recovery. Emerging scientific evidence highlights the crucial role of B-complex vitamins and other micronutrients in supporting physiological processes such as energy metabolism, nerve function, immune response, and tissue repair.

These recovery guidelines highlight the specific roles of various micronutrients and provide doctors with practical tools to enhance patient recovery following infections, fractures, or even major surgeries. By combining scientific evidence with actionable recommendations, the guidelines will help physicians incorporate micronutrient support into recovery pathways and adopt a more holistic approach to patient care.”

Access to the Guidelines

The Patient Recovery Guidelines: “Clinical Application of Micronutrients in Recovery” are now available to clinicians on the Indian Medical Association (IMA) website, providing healthcare professionals across the country with an accessible and structured resource to support better recovery outcomes.
