Philips, a global leader in health technology, has partnered with the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), a unit of the Tata Memorial Centre, to introduce next-generation Spectral CT imaging in India. This collaboration aims to enhance diagnostic precision, enable earlier disease detection, and support better clinical decision-making for patients with complex cancers.

Addressing the Growing Need for Accurate Diagnosis
India continues to face a rising burden of cancer and other complex multi-system diseases. Consequently, timely and accurate diagnosis has become increasingly critical.
Diagnostic delays can lead to avoidable patient harm. Moreover, repeated imaging procedures may expose patients to additional radiation, increase anxiety, and prolong treatment timelines—especially in high-volume tertiary care centres. Therefore, adopting advanced diagnostic technologies can play a vital role in improving both patient safety and clinical efficiency.
Spectral CT Enhances Diagnostic Precision
The Philips Spectral CT 7500 enables clinicians to capture detailed spectral information during routine CT scans. As a result, physicians can obtain deeper insights into disease characteristics from a single scan.
Importantly, this technology allows clinicians to make earlier and more confident diagnostic decisions without increasing radiation exposure. In addition, the system can deliver full-body imaging in approximately two seconds, offering richer diagnostic information while significantly reducing the need for repeat scans.
Studies also indicate that the use of spectral CT imaging leads to 36 percent fewer additional diagnostic procedures in complex cancer evaluations. Consequently, patients experience lower radiation exposure, reduced anxiety, and shorter treatment delays.

Earlier this year, on February 7, 2026, ACTREC hosted a joint clinical program titled “Spectral CT: Clinical Publication Compendium.” During the event, leading radiologists unveiled a compendium featuring more than 770 peer-reviewed publications and white papers from across the world.
As per the Philips Press release, the collection highlights how detector-based spectral CT technology enhances diagnostic certainty, optimises radiation dose and contrast use, reduces follow-up examinations, and improves workflow efficiency across diverse clinical applications.
