Indian Stroke Association Strengthens ‘Save the Brain’ Mission Through 12th Stroke Summer School

The Indian Stroke Association (ISA) successfully concluded the 12th ISA Stroke Summer School 2026, a three-day academic programme held from August 14–16 at Novotel Imagicaa, Khopoli, Mumbai. Held under the theme “From Fundamentals to Frontiers in Stroke Care,” the programme brought together stroke experts, neurologists, neurointerventionists, physicians, residents and young consultants from across India.

Focus on Advanced Stroke Care

The programme covered key aspects of stroke management, including early recognition through the BE FAST approach, emergency evaluation, neuroimaging, Neurosonology, intravenous thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, neurointervention, rehabilitation and secondary prevention.

Participants also attended hands-on workshops, case-based sessions, interactive discussions, clinical trial updates, live demonstrations and poster presentations. As per the Indian Stroke Association press release, the programme also highlighted the need for stroke-ready hospitals, efficient referral systems, multidisciplinary care and greater public awareness.

Experts Emphasise Timely Treatment

Dr. Vikram Huded, President, ISA, highlighted that early recognition and treatment within the golden window can significantly improve stroke outcomes. He also stressed the importance of trained healthcare teams and organised stroke systems alongside advances such as thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.

Dr. Arvind Sharma, Secretary, ISA, emphasised continuous medical education and greater public awareness of stroke symptoms. Meanwhile, Dr. Nirmal Surya, Organising Secretary, 12th ISA Stroke Summer School, said the programme provides a platform for young clinicians to gain practical skills through hands-on learning and interaction with experienced experts.

  • B – Balance: Sudden loss of balance
  • E – Eyes: Sudden vision problems
  • F – Face: Facial drooping
  • A – Arm: Sudden weakness or numbness
  • S – Speech: Slurred or unclear speech
  • T – Time: Seek emergency medical care immediately

Through continued education and collaboration, ISA aims to strengthen stroke care and ensure timely, life-saving treatment for patients across India.
