President Droupadi Murmu has urged all stakeholders to unite in the fight against tuberculosis, describing the disease as a persistent global public health challenge. She shared this message on the eve of World Tuberculosis Day, which is observed every year on March 24 to raise awareness and strengthen global efforts to eliminate the disease.
In an official statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President expressed her appreciation for the continued observance of the day. She noted that the initiative plays an important role in highlighting the global impact of tuberculosis and the need for sustained action.
“I am happy to know that World Tuberculosis Day is being celebrated on March 24 to raise awareness about the global challenge posed by tuberculosis (TB),” President Murmu said as reported by NDTV.
Progress Under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan
While acknowledging the ongoing challenges posed by tuberculosis, the President also highlighted the progress made under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. According to her, the initiative has strengthened several aspects of TB control in India.
Notably, the programme has improved early diagnosis, ensured free treatment, provided nutritional support to patients, and enhanced overall patient care. These efforts, she said, reflect the country’s strong commitment to eliminating tuberculosis through the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP).
At the same time, President Murmu emphasized that tuberculosis continues to pose a serious public health challenge both in India and globally.
“Tuberculosis continues to pose a significant public health challenge. I urge all stakeholders to work together with collective resolve to end tuberculosis once and for all,” she added.
