Each year on 21 June, the world comes together to celebrate the International Day of Yoga—a practice that strengthens both body and spirit. This global observance began after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Recognizing yoga’s universal relevance, he suggested 21 June, the Summer Solstice, as an ideal and symbolic date.

With 177 UN member states co-sponsoring the resolution, the initiative gained unprecedented support. The first celebration took place in 2015, marking the beginning of a worldwide wellness movement.

Theme for 2025: Yoga for One Earth, One Health

As per the WHO press release, this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” highlights the deep bond between human well-being and planetary health. It serves as a reminder that our personal choices can profoundly impact the environment—and vice versa.
