SilverStreak Multispecialty Hospital has successfully removed a 7.06 kg abdominal tumour from a 60-year-old woman in a complex three-hour surgery. The tumour, measuring approximately 25 × 30 cm, had developed over nearly 25 years and affected several surrounding organs.
Complex Case, Multidisciplinary Approach
The patient was admitted with severe abdominal distension, jaundice, loss of appetite, constipation, swelling in both legs and difficulty lying flat. Tests showed that the tumour was compressing nearby organs and blocking the common bile duct, affecting liver function. She also had kidney failure and impaired lymphatic drainage.
As per the hospital’s press release, doctors conducted detailed pre-operative planning before the procedure. Dr. Utkarsh Gupta and Dr. Paras Gupta from GI and MASI Surgery led the surgery, with support from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team, including Dr. Swapnil Agrahari.
Positive Recovery
The team removed the tumour without major complications. The patient spent five days in the ICU for close monitoring and post-operative care. Subsequently, her liver and kidney functions improved, and the swelling in her legs reduced. She is now stable and continues to receive medical care.
