World Health Expo (WHX) in Dubai—formerly Arab Health—will take place from 9–12 February 2026 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC). As part of its 2026 edition, WHX has officially announced the launch of a dedicated Biotech & Life Sciences Zone, reflecting the rapid expansion of the global biotechnology sector, which is projected to surpass US$4 trillion by 2035.

Responding to Rapid Global Biotechnology Growth

The introduction of this new zone underscores the unprecedented acceleration of the biotechnology industry worldwide. By leveraging living organisms, cells, and biological processes, biotechnology continues to transform how healthcare systems treat, prevent, and diagnose diseases. At the same time, breakthroughs in advanced therapeutics, AI-driven research and development, translational science, clinical innovation, and sustainable biomanufacturing are reshaping the market landscape.

According to Global Data Route Analytics, the global biotechnology market was valued at US$1.6 trillion in 2020 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 14.2%, reaching US$4.05 trillion by 2035.

GCC Biotechnology Market Gains Momentum

Meanwhile, the GCC biotechnology market is also on a strong growth trajectory. A recent Knight Frank report projects the regional market to reach US$2.6 billion by 2028, led by the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This growth is driven by expanding localised R&D in genomics, oncology, rare diseases, and synthetic biology.

In addition, rising investor interest and increased cross-border collaboration are accelerating the sector’s shift from early discovery to commercial-stage innovation. Notably, the UAE aims to establish itself as a global hub for biotechnology, precision medicine, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Initiatives such as Operation 300Bn, which allocates AED 300 billion to priority sectors including healthcare, exemplify this ambition.

Biotech & Life Sciences Zone Debuts at WHX 2026

Aligned with these developments, the inaugural Biotech & Life Sciences Zone will take place on 9 February 2026 as part of the newly introduced Frontiers Stage at WHX in Dubai. The programme will bring together global experts, regional innovators, policymakers, investors, and industry leaders to examine the scientific, economic, and societal impact of biotechnology.

Middle East Enters a New Biotech Era

Dr Omar Najim, Session Chair of the Biotech & Life Sciences Zone, CEO of Baynouna Gene Solutions, and Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Khalifa University, emphasised that biotechnology and life sciences are now central to the region’s future.

He noted that the Middle East is transitioning into an era where these disciplines drive healthcare transformation, economic diversification, and scientific leadership. Highlighting the region’s potential, he explained that the Middle East and Africa, home to 1.7 billion people, represents both a fast-growing market and a source of exceptional global talent.

Furthermore, he stressed that the region acts as a strategic bridge between cutting-edge research and real-world healthcare solutions. By accelerating translational science, strengthening regional capabilities, and fostering global partnerships, the region can ensure that laboratory breakthroughs translate into accessible treatments that improve population health.

Exploring Science, Investment, and Global Impact

Held under the theme “Where Science Meets the Future,” the Biotech & Life Sciences Zone will open with a forward-looking session titled The Future and Trends of Life Sciences: From Bench to Global Impact. This session will examine advancements in synthetic biology, next-generation therapeutics, AI-led research, and the Middle East’s emergence as a translational innovation hub.

Subsequently, a high-level panel discussion, Investing in the Next Decade of Biotech & Life Sciences: Collaboration, Capital and Capability, will unite leaders from across the investment and innovation ecosystem. A fireside chat, Biotechnology for One Planet, One Health, will then explore biotechnology’s role in addressing interconnected global health and environmental challenges.

As per the press release, the programme will also feature Regional to Global Translational Research and Innovation, focusing on connecting regional research capacity with international R&D networks. Cell & Gene Waves: Building the Access-Era for Advanced Therapies will follow, highlighting the urgent need to scale access to breakthrough treatments.

Looking Ahead: Biotechnology and Humanity

The zone will conclude with a keynote address titled Biotechnology and the Future of Humanity, delivered by Andrew Craig, author of The Future Is Biotech, offering a forward-looking perspective on the sector’s long-term impact.

WHX Strengthens Its Global Healthcare Platform

Solenne Singer, Senior Vice President at Informa Markets, stated that the new zone reflects both the ambitions of WHX in Dubai and the growing expertise of its global community. She emphasised that biotechnology is transforming every dimension of healthcare and that WHX provides a unique platform to connect scientists, innovators, and industry partners to accelerate progress and collaboration.

A City-Wide Healthcare Experience in 2026

In 2026, WHX in Dubai will be co-timed with WHX Labs in Dubai (formerly Medlab Middle East), the region’s leading laboratory and diagnostics event. While WHX in Dubai relocates to Expo City Dubai, WHX Labs in Dubai will continue at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from 10–13 February. Together, these co-timed events will create a city-wide healthcare experience across two iconic venues.

Collectively, the events will attract over 270,000 professional visits and 4,800 exhibitors, making them the world’s largest healthcare gathering.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention holds WHX in Dubai and WHX Labs in Dubai under its patronage.
