Continuing its nationwide mission to transform surgical care, SS Innovations International Inc. (SSII)—the pioneers behind India’s first indigenously developed surgical robotic system—advanced its SSII MantraM ‘Made-in-India’ Surgical Robot Yatra to Shekhar Hospital, Lucknow, marking a key milestone in its Uttar Pradesh leg.
Uttar Pradesh Journey Begins with Hands-On Learning
The Uttar Pradesh chapter of the Yatra began at Ajanta Hospital, where SSII conducted extensive hands-on demonstrations for doctors and surgeons. Subsequently, Dr. Gita Khanna, renowned gynaecologist, IVF specialist, and Medical Director of Ajanta Hospital, inaugurated the Lucknow leg in the presence of leading surgeons and healthcare professionals, underscoring the region’s growing engagement with advanced surgical technologies.
Showcase at Shekhar Hospital Strengthens Mission of Access
The Yatra then moved to Shekhar Hospital, Lucknow, further reinforcing SSII’s mission to democratise access to cutting-edge surgical technologies across India. During this phase, the SSII MantraM unit engaged with over 100 doctors, surgeons, and medical professionals across premier institutions in Uttar Pradesh, offering hands-on exposure, live demonstrations, and structured training in robotic-assisted surgery.
At Shekhar Hospital, Dr. Amod K. Sachan, Managing Director, Shekhar Hospital and Chairman, Hind Group of Institutes, inaugurated the programme alongside Dr. Ashutosh Chaturvedi, Chairman, Department of Surgery, and Dr. Pratipal Singh, Chairman, Department of Urology.
MantraM Mobile Simulation Unit Makes a Historic Debut
Importantly, the arrival of the MantraM Mobile Simulation Unit marked a historic moment for Lucknow’s medical community. The unit offered first-hand exposure to the Mantra 3.0 Surgical Robotic Platform, an indigenous breakthrough designed to redefine surgical precision, safety, and accessibility. Beyond technology, the initiative reaffirmed SSII’s vision of making world-class healthcare accessible across India, particularly in regions facing specialist shortages.
Immersive Training and Live Demonstrations
As per the press release, the showcase featured live robotic surgery demonstrations, expert-led training sessions, and immersive simulations conducted inside the MantraM Mobile Simulation Bus. As a result, doctors, surgeons, and medical students experienced the platform’s accuracy, reliability, and clinical potential, accelerating confidence and readiness for robotic-assisted surgery.
Leaders Highlight India’s Growing Medical Innovation
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Amod Sachan, Founder and Chairman, Shekhar Hospital, said the institution was proud to host the Yatra. He noted that the initiative highlights India’s growing leadership in medical innovation and represents a game changer in surgical technology.
“This milestone brings us closer to democratising access to advanced surgical care, especially in regions where specialists are in short supply. It marks a new era in surgical care and reinforces India’s position at the forefront of global medical innovation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Vishwa Srivastava, Chief Executive Officer – APAC, SS Innovations International Inc., described the Lucknow stop as a monumental step in transforming surgical practice in India.
“This initiative goes beyond technology. It focuses on saving lives, improving outcomes, and expanding access to advanced care. The training delivered through this programme will drive widespread adoption of robotic surgery across the country,” he added.
India’s First Fully Mobile Robotic Surgery Training Initiative
Notably, the SSII MantraM Surgical Robot Yatra is India’s first initiative to deliver robotic surgical training directly to hospitals and medical colleges through a fully mobile platform. To date, the programme has impacted hundreds of doctors and trainees nationwide, equipping them with the skills and confidence to embrace the future of surgery.
Engineering Excellence Behind the MantraM Mobile Unit
Built on a BharatBenz 1824 chassis, the SSI MantraM unit weighs 18,500 kg and measures 11.9 m (L) × 2.59 m (W) × 3.49 m (H). The fully modified vehicle—excluding the robotic system—costs approximately ₹1.3 crore. SSII custom-engineered the bus with a reinforced base, actuator-based patient-side carts, and advanced locking systems to ensure robotic stability and calibration.
Furthermore, the expandable cabin provides ample space for surgical teams, while air suspension, precision air-conditioning (21°C ± 3°C, 55% RH), and EMI/EMC compliance safeguard sensitive electronics. Designed for remote and underserved regions, the unit includes backup power systems, high-speed telecom infrastructure, satellite connectivity for future-ready telesurgery, and a 380-litre fuel tank to support long-distance travel.
Bridging the Gap Between Innovation and Underserved Regions
Through the MantraM Yatra, SS Innovations International continues to bridge the gap between advanced surgical capabilities and underserved geographies. By bringing technology directly to hospitals, SSII ensures that precision, safety, and accessibility are no longer limited by location.
Vision 2026: Democratising Robotic Surgery Across India
Looking ahead to 2026, SSII has set a clear mandate: democratise robotic surgery across Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The company envisions a future where robotic surgery becomes standard care rather than a premium offering. This future will feature greater accessibility, enhanced surgeon autonomy, AI-driven systems, real-time data analytics, and remote connectivity.
By focusing on affordability without compromising performance and integrating advanced features such as telesurgery, reusable instrumentation, and open-console ergonomics, SS Innovations International remains committed to leading India’s transformation in surgical robotics and delivering transformative healthcare for all.
