Apollo Hospitals, Secunderabad, hosted the 10th Arthroplasty Arthroscopy Summit 2026 at the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Jubilee Hills, under the aegis of the Telangana Orthopaedic Surgeons Association (TOSA) and Twin Cities Orthopaedic Society (TCOS).
More than 250 orthopaedic surgeons from across India, including young professionals, attended the one-day summit. Senior specialists discussed complex cases, emerging techniques and evidence-based approaches for everyday patient care.
Robotics, ACL and Joint Treatments in Focus
According to the press release, the summit highlighted advances in robotic knee replacement, ACL procedures, joint preservation and minimally invasive surgery. Experts noted that while robotic technology can improve surgical precision, its long-term clinical benefits and cost-effectiveness in India require further evaluation.
The discussions also examined injections such as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for osteoarthritis. Experts emphasised that PRP should not be considered a proven cure for severe arthritis, where appropriately selected patients may require definitive treatment such as total knee replacement.
Emerging Techniques Under Review
The summit also explored synthetic ligaments and internal bracing for selected ACL injuries, as well as cartilage-preservation techniques, cell-based therapies and advances in shoulder replacement. Speakers stressed the importance of evaluating new technologies based on safety, clinical evidence, long-term outcomes and affordability.
Evidence to Guide Innovation
Dr N. Somashekar Reddy, Organising Chairman, AAS, said the summit focused on evaluating emerging treatments and distinguishing meaningful advances from techniques that lack sufficient evidence.
Overall, the summit reinforced a key message: innovation must be matched with the right patient and clinical indication, while evidence, surgical expertise, patient expectations and value should guide treatment decisions.
