AIIMS-Raipur will inaugurate its state-of-the-art robotic surgery programme on September 6, 2025, becoming the first government hospital in Central India to provide robot-assisted surgical care. The initiative represents a major leap in bringing advanced medical technology closer to patients in Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states.

Preparations for the Grand Launch

In the run-up to the inauguration, Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (retd), Executive Director of AIIMS-Raipur, met Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to formally invite him as the chief guest. CM Sai welcomed the move and assured full government support, calling it a transformative step in strengthening healthcare services in the region.

How Robotic Surgery Works

According to AIIMS, robotic surgery enables surgeons to operate with robotic arms controlled via a console. The technology provides a 3D high-definition view of the surgical field, eliminates hand tremors, and allows delicate, precise movements even in hard-to-reach areas.

As reported by TOI, this technique is especially beneficial for complex procedures in urology, gynaecology, and colorectal surgery, where precision and flexibility play a critical role in patient outcomes.

Benefits for Patients

Patients undergoing robotic surgery can expect significant advantages compared to conventional methods. These include:

  • Smaller incisions
  • Reduced blood loss
  • Less postoperative pain
  • Faster recovery times

Doctors at AIIMS highlighted that while robotic surgery may involve higher upfront costs, the shorter hospital stays and quicker return to daily life make it a cost-effective and valuable option for eligible patients.

A Transformative Step in Healthcare

By introducing robotic-assisted surgery, AIIMS-Raipur is not only advancing medical technology but also expanding equitable access to high-quality surgical care. The programme is set to reshape the surgical landscape of Central India, offering patients modern treatment options closer to home.
