Apollo Cradle Saves Extreme Preterm Baby Born at 27 Weeks, Weighing Just 504 Grams

Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital (Apollo Cradle) announced the successful treatment and discharge of an extreme preterm baby girl, born at only 27 weeks and weighing just 504 grams. This milestone case demonstrates the hospital’s advanced neonatal care capabilities. It also reinforces its belief that every life, no matter how fragile, deserves a chance to thrive.

A Challenging Beginning

According to the press release, doctors at Apollo Cradle Jubilee Hills performed an emergency Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) to deliver the baby. They intervened after detecting critical Doppler changes and reversal of blood flow. Despite a low probability of survival, she faced challenges from the very start. She needed mechanical ventilation and battled life-threatening complications, including suspected sepsis, neonatal jaundice, and apnea.

Expert Care and Multidisciplinary Support

“The conditions inside the womb and outside are entirely different, and we were determined to give this baby the best possible start,” said Dr. K. Raja Subba Reddy, Consultant Neonatologist at Apollo Cradle. He added, “Her journey was complex, but with the support of our dedicated NICU team, obstetricians, and staff, we navigated each critical stage—from respiratory support to nutritional needs. Her progress is a powerful reminder of what is possible when a multidisciplinary team works with a singular focus on a positive outcome.”

Every delivery is unique, and we believe in giving every baby a chance.”

Triumph After 61 Days in NICU

After 61 days of intensive care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), doctors discharged the baby at a healthy weight of 1.568 kg. She reached full oral feeds and showed stable progress, marking a remarkable transformation from her fragile start.

A Message of Hope for Parents

The successful outcome stands not only as a medical achievement but also as a source of hope for parents facing high-risk pregnancies. Apollo Cradle reiterated its message of positivity: no matter how complex or challenging a delivery may seem, it is always worth giving a chance.

The Team Behind the Success

The NICU team, led by Dr. Krishna Swaroop Reddy, Dr. Subba Reddy, and Dr. P. Shiva Kumar Reddy, worked closely with the gynecology team comprising Dr. Vimee Bindra, Dr. Archana Reddy, and Dr. Shweta. Their combined expertise and dedication ensured that the baby received world-class care throughout her journey.
