Apollo Launches ‘End-O Check’ for Early Detection of Gynaecologic Cancers

Apollo Cancer Centre (ACC) and Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC) have jointly launched End-O Check, a targeted early detection programme for ovarian and endometrial cancers. This new initiative focuses on postmenopausal women and others in high-risk categories, aiming to shift the focus from treatment to prevention.

Combining Risk Assessment with Diagnostic Testing

As reported by The Hindu, the programme integrates risk-based assessments, symptom evaluation, and diagnostic screening to enable timely identification of these cancers. By catching signs early, End-O Check aims to significantly improve outcomes, particularly for ovarian cancer—which often goes undetected until it reaches advanced stages.

Expert Panel Calls for Awareness and Preventive Action

To mark the launch, Apollo hosted a panel discussion that brought together oncology experts from across its centres. The session highlighted the urgent need for public awareness, early diagnosis, and access to preventive care.

Moderated by Dr. Ayyappan, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology (ACC-Teynampet), the panel featured:

  • Dr. Ajit Pai, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology (ACC-Teynampet)
  • Dr. P. Venkat, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology (ACC-Teynampet)
  • Dr. Kumar Gubbala, Consultant, Gynaecological Oncology (APCC)
  • Dr. Madhu Priya, Senior Consultant, Surgical Oncology (ACC-Vanagaram)
  • Dr. Priya Kapoor, Consultant, Surgical Oncology (ACC-Teynampet)

Addressing the Silent Threat of Ovarian Cancer

Panelists emphasized that ovarian cancer, often called a “silent killer,” typically affects women between the ages of 55 and 64. Despite its vague early symptoms, if caught early, survival rates can exceed 90%. Delayed diagnosis, however, remains a critical challenge.

Spotlight on Endometrial Cancer Symptoms

In contrast, endometrial cancer often presents with noticeable symptoms like abnormal bleeding. Yet many women still delay seeking medical attention, which can reduce their chances of successful treatment.

Fertility Preservation: A Key Element of Holistic Care

Dr. Madhu Priya underlined the importance of ovum preservation for younger women undergoing cancer treatment. “Freezing eggs for fertility preservation offers women the chance to have biological children after treatment. Including this option reflects compassionate, informed, and patient-centric cancer care,” she said.

A Shift from Cure to Prevention

Dinesh Madhavan, President – Group Oncology and International, Apollo Hospitals, called End-O Check a pivotal move from treatment to early detection. With India’s cancer burden on the rise, the programme encourages women to take charge of their gynaecologic health through education, timely screening, and early intervention.
