BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) India has announced the national launch of its advanced Sherlock 3CG+ system through a four-city roadshow held in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. The innovation is set to transform PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) placement procedures across India, making them faster, safer, and more comfortable for patients.
Transforming Current Clinical Practice
In India, for cancer patients and others requiring long-term intravenous (IV) access, confirming PICC tip placement traditionally involves transferring patients to the radiology department for imaging. This process often leads to workflow delays, patient discomfort, and increased procedural time.
As per the press release, the Sherlock 3CG+ system addresses these challenges by enabling clinicians to track and navigate PICC lines in real time and confirm tip placement directly at the bedside. This innovative approach not only reduces malposition rates but also allows immediate repositioning when necessary, ensuring greater procedural efficiency.
Evidence-Based Efficiency and Accuracy
Global clinical studies have shown that blind insertions or chest X-ray confirmations can result in PICC tip malposition rates of up to 20%, with an average confirmation time of 176 minutes.
In contrast, the Sherlock 3CG+ system—which uses ECG-based technology for live navigation and bedside confirmation—has demonstrated 0% malposition rates and a reduced confirmation time of just 33 minutes. This marks a significant leap forward in both accuracy and efficiency, eliminating the need for post-placement chest X-rays altogether.
Advancing Patient Care and Clinical Outcomes
Commenting on the launch, Atul Grover, Managing Director, BD India/South Asia, said:
“Aligned with our purpose of advancing the world of health, BD has been at the forefront of introducing innovative technologies and continuously training healthcare professionals. With the launch of Sherlock 3CG+, we aim to further support Indian clinicians with solutions that align with evolving clinical needs, improve procedural outcomes, and enhance patient comfort.”
Launch Events and Expert Engagement
The launch events were attended by leading oncologists, hematologists, intensivists, and interventional radiologists. Each city hosted hospital-based programs and evening launch sessions, featuring global BD faculty who shared clinical experiences and best practices with the Sherlock 3CG+ Tip Confirmation System.
Clinicians at the event described the innovation as “a game changer”, noting that it enables PICC insertion and tip confirmation at the bedside, thus streamlining the entire procedure.
Setting a New Standard in PICC Placement
With Sherlock 3CG+, BD aims to usher in a paradigm shift—from radiology-based confirmation to ECG-guided bedside confirmation as the new standard of care.
Now available nationwide, the Sherlock 3CG+ system is supported by BD’s local sales and clinical teams, who are ready to assist healthcare providers with product information, live demonstrations, and onboarding support.
Through this launch, BD India continues to advance healthcare innovation, making patient-centric, efficient, and safe medical procedures a new norm across the country.
