Pune-based healthtech startup Clinics on Cloud has announced plans to deploy more than 2,000 AI-powered Health ATMs across rural and semi-rural regions of Maharashtra over the next two years. The initiative aims to strengthen primary healthcare access in underserved communities by bringing diagnostics and preventive care closer to rural populations.
The announcement follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Clinics on Cloud and the Sainik Shetkari Welfare Foundation, marking a collaborative effort to expand digital healthcare infrastructure in villages.
Hub-and-Spoke Model to Connect Villages with Urban Healthcare
Under the initiative, the company will implement a hub-and-spoke healthcare model. In this system, Health ATMs installed in villages will serve as digital access points (spokes), while hospitals, specialists, and diagnostic centers in urban areas will function as hubs.
As a result, rural residents will gain direct connectivity to urban healthcare systems, enabling real-time teleconsultations, faster diagnostics, and improved continuity of care. This approach is expected to reduce access barriers and strengthen integration with the broader healthcare ecosystem.
AI-Enabled Digital Clinics for Rapid Diagnostics
The Health ATMs are designed to operate as compact digital clinics capable of conducting more than 40 diagnostic tests within minutes. Powered by artificial intelligence, the system can generate instant health reports, facilitate teleconsultations with qualified doctors, issue digital prescriptions, and maintain secure cloud-based electronic health records.
Furthermore, these kiosks incorporate multilingual and voice-enabled interfaces in regional languages. This feature enhances accessibility and ensures that people with limited digital literacy can easily navigate the system.
Bridging the Urban–Rural Healthcare Gap
As reported by Digital Health News, the deployment aligns with broader efforts to reduce healthcare disparities between urban and rural regions. By integrating digital health infrastructure directly into village communities, the initiative aims to support early disease detection, streamline healthcare delivery, and improve overall health outcomes.
Expanding Footprint Across India
In addition to Maharashtra, Clinics on Cloud has been expanding its presence across several states. A few months ago, the startup installed a Health ATM at a hospital in Madhya Pradesh, reflecting its growing role in India’s digital health ecosystem.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Abhay Agarwal, Founder and CEO of Clinics on Cloud, said that rural populations often struggle to access timely diagnostics.
He noted that delayed diagnosis frequently leads to higher health risks and delayed treatment. According to Agarwal, the Health ATM concept aims to bridge this gap by bringing more than 65 rapid diagnostic tests directly to rural communities, enabling faster detection and better healthcare outcomes.
